Mechanical separator for waste dump near Phagwara
Phagwara, June 13
Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal said a ‘mechanical separator’ would be installed soon at the garbage dump near Palahi village in Phagwara, for which the infrastructure has already been set up.
The DC said the installation of ‘separator’ would be done in a day or so after which segregation of the old waste dumped at the site for over 18 years, including scrap items, compostable waste, etc, would be separated for proper disposal and reduction of volume of the huge heaps. He said there was approximately 14 lakh metric tonne of waste at the site of which 4 lakh metric tonne would be separated by the machine and properly disposed off in a span of nearly 1.5 years.
During his visit to the dump along with Municipal Commissioner Dr Nayan Jassal to review the efforts being made to dispose off the garbage, the DC said the administration and the Municipal Corporation were working jointly on this task and hopefully a positive outcome would be delivered shortly.
He said regular spraying was also being arranged in the area near the garbage dump to control the stench. He said to control the fire incidents at the garbage dump, an employee was being posted at the garbage dump to call the fire brigade on the spot. Besides, a tubewell was also being installed at the garbage dump to ensure daily spraying of water to prevent fire.
He asked the MC to monitor the proper disposal of garbage at the garbage dump and a report in this regard should be sent to the office of the Deputy Commissioner on weekly basis.
