Medicines for defence supply being sold in open market
Jalandhar, August 5
A team of the Drug Department today conducted a raid at a pharma store and seized medicines meant for defence supply. At least five kinds of defence supply medicines were found being sold in the open market here.
Clearly labelled “Defence supply not for sale” on the boxes, the medicines were illegally being sold at the city’s wholesale Dilkusha market at DM Pharma.
The team, comprising drug inspectors Anupama Kalia and Amarjit Singh, senior assistant Dinesh Kumar, along with Joint Director NCB, Amritsar, inspected the DM Pharma at Dilkusha market and recovered five kinds of defence supply medicines, including ridtral-400, vayamada and duphaston.
The person supplying defence supply medicine was caught and his residence was also raided from where defence military supply medicine was recovered. The raid was going on till the filing of the report.
Sources in the Drug Department said, “Medicines meant for the defence personnel can’t be sold in local markets. Most medicine boxes have been clearly labelled as meant for defence supply, while on some boxes the labels have been partially erased. Based on recoveries from the residence of the seller, the ambit of the raid might get bigger. The proceedings are still going on.”
