The District Red Cross Society distributed free medicines worth nearly Rs 3 lakh to the needy people during the current fiscal.
Varinder Kumar Sharma, DC-cum-chairman of the society, while chairing a executive committee meeting of the society, said the income of society during current financial year was Rs 84.53 lakh whereas the expenditure was Rs 73.90 lakh. He said during the fiscal free medicines worth Rs 2,81,415 were provided to poor and needy patients and ration worth Rs 37,390 was provided to needy people. Sharma said that likewise Rs 1,71,453 was spent on providing crutches, sewing machines, tricycles and wheel chairs.
The DC also gave green signal for initiating a special drive to enrol new members for the District Red Cross. He said it would serve twin purposes of strengthening the Red Cross Society on one hand and associating more and more people with this society on the other.
