Phagwara, August 3
A special meeting aimed at raising awareness about the prevention and control of dengue and malaria was held at the Phagwara Civil Hospital today. The meeting was organised by Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr Lahinber Ram in collaboration with the Medical Laboratory Association, Phagwara.
During the meeting, Dr Ram emphasised on the increased risk of contracting dengue and malaria during the monsoon season when stagnant water in streets and drains becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. He highlighted the importance of eliminating stagnant water sources and applying oil to prevent mosquito breeding.
The SMO also recommended observing a “Dry Day” each week, specifically on Fridays, as promoted by the Health Department. On this day, residents are encouraged to empty and dry all water containers to reduce the risk of mosquito breeding.
Health inspectors Balihar Singh and Gurmej Singh provided information on the symptoms of dengue and malaria, such as fever with chills, headaches, pain behind the eyes, muscle pain, red rashes on the body, and bleeding from the nose or mouth. They urged people to seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms were observed.
Dr Ram appealed to laboratory managers to support the Health Department in preventing the spread of vector-borne diseases. The meeting was attended by health inspectors Balihar Chand, Gurmej Singh, Harvinder Mahimi, Anu Sohi, and Medical Laboratory Association chairman Dr MP Singh, along with other members including Dhalwinder Raj, Gaurav Chopra, Sarabjit Singh, Sukhwinder Pal and Sandeep Kumar.
