Migrant couple run over by speeding car

A farm labourer couple killed when a speeding car ran over them near Sultanpur Lodhi on late Saturday evening.

As per reports received here on Sunday, the couple was struck by a speeding car in village Tarfhaji near Sultanpur Lodhi, resulting in the immediate death of the wife and serious injuries to the husband. The couple was returning from paddy transplanting work in the fields when the incident occurred.

Eyewitnesses reported that the car, allegedly travelling at a high speed, hit the couple as they were walking along the roadside. The woman died on the spot due to the impact, while the severely injured man was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sultanpur Lodhi. He was later referred to Kapurthala Hospital for further treatment, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

The police had been informed and are are investigating the matter. Cops are working to identify the vehicle involved and determine the circumstances leading to the fatal collision. The identities of the deceased have not yet been known.
