Local Bodies Minister, Punjab, Dr Ravjot Singh has announced a comprehensive plan to provide 100 per cent safe drinking water to urban population across the state. Under the initiative, areas facing water scarcity will be prioritised, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of potable water through the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board (PWSSB).

  • Scheme will benefit over 8,000 residents in areas such as Santokhpura, Gobindpura, Kothra, Nakodar Road, Purewal Nagar and Khalwara Road.

  Dr Singh laid the foundation stone of a Rs 4.35-crore water supply project in Phagwara, aimed at benefiting over 8,000 residents in areas such as Santokhpura, Gobindpura, Kothra, Nakodar Road, Purewal Nagar and Khalwara Road.
The project involves the installation of a 9-km-long pipeline and will provide water connections to over 1,000 households. It is expected to be completed by May 27 next year.
Addressing a gathering, the minister directed Municipal Commissioner Navneet Kaur Bal to closely monitor the progress of the project to ensure its timely completion. He also instructed officials of the PWSSB to submit progress reports fortnightly.
Dr Singh emphasised that the urban local bodies have been tasked with conducting detailed studies and submitting reports on water supply systems in their respective areas to address future challenges effectively.
Prominent attendees at the event included former minister and Aam Aadmi Party constituency in-charge Joginder Singh Mann, District Planning Board Chairman Lalit Saklani, Phagwara Improvement Trust Chairman Kashmir Singh Malhi, AAP spokesperson Harnur Singh Mann and Daljit Raju, among others. Chief Engineer Satnam Singh, XEN Arvind Mehta, SDO Water Supply and Sewerage Department Pardeep Chottani were also present on the occasion.
