A 16-year-old girl had reportedly gone missing from her house, returned and alleged that she was lured away on the pretext of marriage.
The police have registered a case under Sections 363 and 366-A of the Indian Penal Code.
According to a complaint lodged by a resident of Phagwara, his daughter, who is pursuing a computer course, had left home on the morning of July 31 to buy medicine but did not return. The father stated that he searched for her in relatives' houses but, fearing social stigma, refrained from immediately reporting the matter to the police.
The girl returned home last evening and disclosed that she had been enticed by Arman Mansoor, a resident of Jagat Nagar, Jodhwal, Ludhiana. She alleged that the youth took her away after deceiving her with a false promise of marriage.
Following her statement, the police have registered a case against the accused and initiated further investigation.
