In the seven wrestling title competitions held at the 28th Purewal Games, two from Punjab, three from Haryana and one each from Canada and Iran won the title.

In the close clashes held for all the wrestling titles, wrestlers from different parts of India, besides Iran, Canada and Brazil showed their mettle. Mirza Iran won the ‘Mahabharat Kesari’ title in the men’s open weight category and Vicky Mirchpur was the runner-up. Both received a prize of Rs 1.25 lakh and Rs 75,000 respectively. Kajal Sonipat won the title of ‘Mahabharat Kesari’ in the women’s open weight category by defeating Jashanveer Amritsar. The winner received a prize of Rs 50,000 and the runner-up received a prize of Rs 35,000.

Sachin Patiala won the title of ‘Sher-e-Hind’ in the boys’ up to 90 kg weight category by defeating Pargat Patiala. The winner received a prize of Rs 50,000 and the runner-up received a prize of Rs 35,000. Jaideep Rohtak won the title of ‘Aftab-e-Hind’ in the boys’ up to 80 kg weight category by defeating Chandan Mor Mirchipur. The winner received a prize of Rs 40,000 and the runner-up received a prize of Rs 25,000.

Jaskaran Singh Patiala won the title of ‘Sitar-e-Hind’ in the boys’ up to 65 kg weight category by defeating Sahil Amritsar. The winner received a prize of Rs. 40,000 and the runner-up received a prize of Rs 25,000. The title of ‘Mahabharat Kumari’ for girls up to 60 kg weight category was won by Meenakshi Jind by defeating Manpreet Kaur Faridkot. The winner received a prize of Rs 30,000 and the runner-up received a prize of Rs 25,000. The title of ‘Punjab Kumar’ for the age group up to 17 years was won by Uday Pratap Singh Canada by defeating Gurikman Singh Ghanaur. The winner received a prize of Rs 15,000 and the runner-up received a prize of Rs 10,000.

The winners were honoured by chief organiser Gurjit Singh Purewal, Sukhi Ghuman, Charanjit Singh Bath, principal Sarwan Singh, Gurcharan Singh Shergill, PR Sondhi, Navdeep Singh Gill, Amarjit Singh Tut and Rana Tut.
