Dasuya, February 6
Some unidentified persons fired 6-7 rounds in the air yesterday night at Unchi Bassi village, which is situated close to an Army ammunition depot, on the Jalandhar-Jammu national highway.
Panic gripped residents of the village after the incident. They told the police that they heard gunshots on Wednesday night.
People noticed from inside their houses that four unidentified persons fled the spot on two motorcycles after firing in the air. Thereafter, they came out of their houses.
Shells of rounds were scattered in the street after the incident. The residents informed village sarpanch Sandeep Uttam about the incident, who further approached the Dasuya police.
Station House Officer of the Dasuya police station Yadvinder Singh Brar, along with his team, reached the spot. They took the live rounds and shells in their possession.
The Station House Officer said the footage of CCTVcameras installed in the village were being checked and there was an apprehension of some old enmity behind the incident. The Dasuya police said they were investigating the case.
The village sarpanch said no one would be allowed to spoil the peaceful atmosphere of the village.
A complaint has been filed with the police in this regard.
Considering the late-night firing in the adjoining village of the Army cantonment as extremely sensitive, Army officials were also keeping a close watch on the police action in the matter.
