Mizoram Governor visits Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala

Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, Governor of Mizoram, visited Pushpa Gujral Science City in Kapurthala on Monday.

He was taken around various facilities here, including scientific galleries, Innovation Hub, Panorama on Life through the Ages, Climate Change Theatre, Dino Park as well as newly setup galleries on Mathematics and Mission Tandarust Punjab.

Dr Neelima Jerath, Director General of Pushpa Gujral Science City, briefed him on various other scientific activities being undertaken by Science City. He appreciated various facilities setup at Science City to inculcate scientific temper among masses and emphasized that every state must have such places where science could be made fun and students enjoy it.

The Governor said, “We are in an era in which the economy of every nation depends upon its strength in science and technology. During the last couple of years, the Indian economy has been on the rise and the credit of this development goes to successful implementation of science, technology and innovation programmes.”

Dr Neelima Jerath said science popularisation had been adopted by the Government of Punjab in mission mode to build scientific temper and supplement formal science education through non-formal means. Further, students as well as people from society get an opportunity here to solve real-life problems using science and earn gratitude of the common man. ADC Urban Development Anupam Kaler were also present on the occasion.

Rs 2.11-cr grant disbursed

to 211 LPU students

Phagwara: A Study grant to the tune of Rs 2.11 crore was disbursed at a ceremony to around 211 deserving students by Lovely Professional Institution (LPU) to help them realise their aspirations without facing financial constraints.

At the award ceremony, Mizoram Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati disbursed the grant on behalf of LPU. Rs 1.32 crore was given to students of 2020 batch, while Rs 79 lakh was disbursed to students of different disciplines, including engineering, design, hotel management and law, from 2021-batch.

A teacher-turned-politician and now an administrator, Dr Kambhampati Hari Babu, quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said: “The new education policy will play an important role in creating “aatma nirbhar bharat”(Self-reliant India), and in this regard, as a leading private university of the country, LPU is indeed fulfilling its special responsibility towards NEP-2020. The university is going ahead in the right direction.”

Dr Ashok Kumar Mital, Chancellor, LPU, said: “We established the award with an intent that no skilled student should be denied access to a world-class education due to financial constraints. We hope that these young people succeed in the future and make us all proud of what they have accomplished. Each year, we will work towards increasing the number of students who benefit from our grants and financial aid programmes.” — OC
