A festive atmosphere marked the inauguration of the district-level primary sports competitions at the Lajwanti Multipurpose Stadium, Hoshiarpur, on Monday. MLA Bram Shankar Jimpa inaugurated the games as the chief guest, while Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nikas Kumar attended as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Bram Shankar Jimpa said that the Punjab government is making continuous efforts to promote sports and nurture young talent. He added that children who work hard and display commitment at the school level are the ones who later bring glory to the state and the nation at international sporting events.
Jimpa congratulated the participants for reaching the district level after winning central and block-level competitions, calling it a testament to their hard work and dedication. He assured officials from the education department that any sports-related requirements or facility gaps would be addressed on priority.
The MLA also administered an oath to the young athletes to play with true sportsmanship and encouraged them by personally meeting and interacting with the players.
On the occasion, Deputy District Education Officer Amandeep Sharma welcomed the chief guest, noting that it is a matter of pride for Punjab that the captains of both India’s cricket and hockey teams hail from the state, showcasing Punjab’s rich pool of sporting talent. He expressed confidence that the young players participating in the event would also bring laurels to Punjab at the national and international levels in the future. Deepak Vashisht efficiently conducted the stage proceedings.
