MLA raids lottery shop at Basti Bawa Khel

Jalandhar (West) MLA Sheetal Angural conducted a surprise raid at a lottery shop operating near Basti Bawa Khel canal here this evening.

The MLA, accompanied by his team, claimed that he took action following several complaints regarding ‘illegal activities’ within the shop.

Going live on his social media page, MLA Angural asserted that the lottery shop owner was deceiving customers by selling fake lotteries. He said the shop owner, along with big fishes in the lottery business, was carrying out betting activities inside the establishment.

MLA Angural sent one of his aides to gather information before carrying out the raid. The police were also informed about the raid.

Expressing concern over the rampant betting at the lottery stall, MLA Angural accused lower rung police officials of collusion with the operators. He urged the higher-ups within the Police Commissionerate to take action against those involved in this trade.

He condemned the shop owner for misleading the people as well as the government through large-scale betting activities.

MLA Angural emphasised the need for a thorough investigation to uncover the instigators behind the illegal activities at the lottery shop. It was learnt a DCP-rank officer had visited the site along with the Basti Bawa Khel police team, and assured thorough investigation in the matter.

Meanwhile, ACP (West) Kulbhushan said the matter was in his knowledge. It was being investigated by higher-ups who reached the site. However, despite repeated attempts, senior police officials, including DCP (Law and Order), DCP (Headquarters) and others couldn’t be contacted.
