Vijay Kumar, a 76-year-old retired government employee is in distress. He has alleged that after the licence of Imperial Urban Cooperative Bank, Jalandhar, was cancelled, his Rs 55 lakh got stuck and he wasn't sure if he would get it.
A distraught Kumar said he had his account with the bank for the last several decades. "I had my FDs in the bank and I was given Rs 5 lakh after restrictions were imposed on the bank by the RBI," he said. The elderly man added that when his wife, who was a retired government teacher, got to know about the situation, she went into depression and passed away.
"I don't know how to live, what to do. Nobody can understand my pain. I am left with my son who runs a shop. I will write about this to the Chief Justice of India and the President and will demand justice," an emotional Kumar stated.
When bank officials were approached, they denied any such allegations. "We have assured the depositors that they will get their money back. The money is not stuck. The moment we get orders from the RBI, they will receive their money," a senior bank official, who did not want to named, said.
Another complainant Kamaljit Bhatia also shared that his Rs 10 lakh was with the bank. "I have also filed a case in the district court and we are hoping to get justice," he added.
