MP demands Rs 60k cr relief package for Punjab flood victims

Member of Parliament from Anandpur Sahib, Malvinder Singh Kang, on Thursday called for a special relief package of Rs 60,000 crore from the Union Government to assist Punjab, which has been severely affected by the recent floods.

During a review of the Dhussi Bandh of Sutlej, Kang, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Nawanshahr Ankurjeet Singh and SDM Balachaur Kritika Goyal, highlighted the devastation caused by the floods.

Kang urged the government to announce a minimum compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for the damage caused by the floods. He emphasised that Punjab has consistently been at the forefront during national crises and deserves sympathetic consideration from the Union Government.

In addition, the MP requested an exemption for Punjab from paying GST for the next two years as part of the relief efforts. He also announced that he would prioritize the release of remaining MPLAD funds for the current year to aid the flood-affected areas and victims of the disaster. The Deputy Commissioner briefed the MP on the ongoing situation concerning the Dhussi Bandh in the district.
