MP Sushil Kumar Rinku today raised the demand for naming the Adampur Civil Airport after Guru Ravidas as a resolution in this regard has already been passed by the Punjab Legislative Assembly. He stated that this move would honour the sentiments of millions of people, especially followers of Guru Ravidas across the country.
Sharing details of his speech in the Lok Sabha, the MP said he thanked Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia for his swift action to ensure early resumption of flights at the airport. He stated that a large number of people in the country, particularly in Punjab, wish to name this airport after Guru Ravidas. He said the Union Government should take necessary action to name Adampur airport after Guru Ravidas.
Notably, the MP had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Union Civil Aviation Minister to restore flights from this airport as it would cater to the needs of thousands of passengers of the Doaba region, which is also known as an NRI hub. The MP said the airport terminal was revamped with ultra-modern facilities at an outlay of Rs 125 crore and all set to host passengers with peak-hour capacity of 300 passengers daily.
Rinku mentioned that the airport would also provide wings to aspirations of the business community of this industrial town. Therefore, early resumption of flights from the Adampur airport was need of the hour.
