MP Ashok Kumar Mittal leads relief drive for flood-hit families in Kapurthala

In the wake of severe flooding across Punjab following intense rainfall that submerged large parts of northern India, Rajya Sabha member Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal visited the flood-affected village of Kamewal in Kapurthala to oversee relief efforts.

Dr Mittal personally supervised the distribution of essential supplies to over 600 affected families, assessed the damage on ground and interacted with displaced residents. “The scale of this disaster has imposed unimaginable hardship on our community,” he said, adding, “At such a time, it is not just about extending aid—it is about standing together, restoring hope, and ensuring that no one feels abandoned. Punjab has always shown resilience, and together we will rise above this calamity.”

Emphasising the need for long-term planning, Dr Mittal stated, “While providing immediate relief is imperative, this calamity underscores the necessity for enhanced disaster preparedness, robust infrastructure, and stronger community networks to mitigate future risks.”

Joining the distribution drive were Improvement Trust Chairman Sajjan Singh Cheema, Additional Deputy Commissioner Varinderpal Singh Bajwa, SDM Major Irwin Kaur, SP (D) Prabhjot Singh Virk, and DSP Hargurdev Singh. Their presence reinforced the coordinated response by local administration and public representatives to support affected families in the region.
