Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Member of Parliament, emphasised that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government was making significant strides to tackle the drug issue in the state. “Under the ongoing campaign, major drug peddlers have been jailed, while addicted youth are being referred to rehabilitation centres across Punjab,” he said. He further highlighted the pivotal role played by religious organisations and figures in fighting social evils, urging collective efforts to curb the growing drug problem for the betterment of society and future generations.
Dr Chabbewal noted the considerable success of the state’s efforts, pointing out that Punjab Police had arrested 15,861 individuals involved in the drug trade. He added that over 200 police teams, comprising more than 1,500 police personnel, under the supervision of 101 gazetted officers, were conducting raids across the state to dismantle drug networks.
Local MLA Dr Ishank Kumar also spoke on the matter, stressing the continuous efforts being made to ensure the development of the region while tackling the drug menace. He described the gathering as a significant moment, with the Sant-Samaj pledging their full support to the anti-drug cause. “The people must unite to ensure that youngsters do not fall prey to drugs,” he said. Dr Kumar assured the public that the Punjab Government and the Police were taking stringent action against drug peddlers.
Appealing directly to the youth, Dr Ishank Kumar stated that the State Government had made elaborate arrangements at rehabilitation centres for the treatment of those affected by drugs. He urged individuals struggling with addiction to seek help and reclaim their lives through these centres.
Both Dr Chabbewal and Dr Kumar expressed their gratitude to the Sant-Samaj for their continued blessings in tackling the social issue. They also called on other social and community organisations to join the campaign and help make the region drug-free.
