Lok Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Rinku accorded a warm welcome to the tableaux of Punjab at Nakodar Chowk here today. He denounced the Union Government’s move of excluding Punjab’s representation in the Republic Day parade terming it as an insult to Punjabis.

Disrespect to martyrs’ sacrifices

Lok Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Rinku lamented that despite Punjab being considered as the nation’s breadbasket, its representation was overlooked, calling it disrespect to the sacrifices of countless martyrs. He also extended gratitude to CM Bhagwant Mann for his decision to showcase these tableaux across the state.

Rinku said the absence of Punjab’s tableaux from the Republic Day parade in Delhi was a disservice to the state’s immense contribution to the nation’s progress and its pivotal role in the freedom struggle.

He lamented that despite Punjab being considered as the nation’s breadbasket, its representation was overlooked, calling it disrespect to the sacrifices of countless martyrs.

Three poignant tableaux entered the city today. The first tableau paid homage to Sikh warrior Mai Bhago, accompanied by a display from Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls, highlighting women empowerment.

The second tableau showcased Punjab’s rich cultural heritage, while the third one depicted the tragic events of Jallianwala Bagh and honoured luminaries such as Sardar Bhagat Singh and Shaheed Udham Singh.

After entering the city via Shri Guru Ravidass Chowk, the tableaux reached Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk and halted at Shri Ram Chowk outside the Municipal Corporation premises where a large number of people, especially women and children, witnessed the legacy of Punjab and its contribution to freedom struggle.

These tableaus include portrayer of Jallianwala Bagh incident, Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, Shaheed Udham Singh, Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna, Lala Lajpat Rai, Shaheed Sukhdev, Lala Hardiyal, Sardar Ajit Singh, Baba Kharak Singh, Madan Lal Dhingra, Dr Diwan Singh Kalepani, besides other great personalities.

Rinku extended gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for his decision to showcase these tableaux across the state.
