Muskan steals spotlight with ‘Best Actress’ title

Muskan Kaushal, a student at Hans Raj Mahila Mahavidyalaya, has brought laurels to the institute, and the region, by bagging the ‘Best Actress’ title in a recently concluded inter-zonal youth festival organised by Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU).

Muskan played the lead in a 30-minute one-act play staged by the college. The play was based on Saadat Hasan Manto’s short story ‘Sadak Ke Kinaare’. “We were trained by Sunny sir, who made us soak in the characters effortlessly. He made sure that I delivered lines with the right expressions, emotions, body language, and the fighter spirit — which is expected of the protagonist,” Muskan said.

A master mimic, the Harnamdaspura resident can deliver 30 voices in 4-5 minutes. Last year, she bagged the bronze medal in the GNDU inter-zonal youth festival. “It all started when I was a child. I had started copying characters featured in cartoons I used to watch.” The 19-year-old, however, is not sure if she would be pursuing acting as a career.

“It will all depend on if I get a ‘break’ (a favourable opportunity) sometime in life. I am already working with a digital marketing firm. I go to the college in the day, and, from 6 pm to midnight, I work at my job,” said Muskan, who is enrolled in the BBA course. “Even if I do not get good career opportunities in acting, it shall always remain my passion. I will continue to pursue it as my hobby,” said the teenager, whose father works in the banking sector.
