A spokesperson for the state VB stated that the arrest was made based on a complaint lodged by Lakhvinder Singh, a resident of village Madrasa in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, through Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line.

Lakhvinder Singh, a security guard employed in a private company, had applied for a job in Punjab Home Guard (PHG) Office Faridkot in 2017 on compassionate grounds, following his uncle’s demise who was employed there. The accused constable demanded a bribe of Rs 6,50,000 and asked Lakhvinder to pay Rs 50,000 as the first instalment.

Lakhvinder transferred Rs 10,000 each in four transactions and later deposited Rs 9,800 into the constable’s HDFC account, totalling Rs 49,800, via PhonePe.

The VB’s investigation confirmed the bribery allegations, leading to a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Jalandhar range.
