Nakodar: Sarabjit Singh Dhaliwal, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Jalandhar, has sentenced a man to undergo 20 years of imprisonment for raping a minor. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on the convict, identified as Yashpal, alias Jaspal, a resident of Bopa Rai Kalan village. A case under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and sections of the POSCO Act was registered against him on May 2017. His two other accomplices were sentenced earlier. OC

PO lands in police net

Shahkot: The police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO), who has been absconding for the past 10 months. Investigating officer (IO) Buta Ram said the accused had been identified as Gurnam Singh, alias Gama, a resident of Toti village falling under the Sultanpur Lodhi police station. He was wanted in a case of drug peddling registered in 2019 and was declared a PO in April 2023. OC

1 booked for criminal trespass

Nakodar: The Nakodar City police have booked a person on the charge of criminal trespass. Investigating officer (IO) Harinder Pal Singh said the suspect had been identified as Amarjit Singh, a resident of Mohalla Sher Pur, Nakodar. Raj Kumar, a resident of Amar Model Colony, Nakodar, complained to the police that the suspect forcibly demolished some part of his shop in Dakhani Gate and attempted to encroach upon it on the night of February 11. He also blocked entry to the shop by throwing garbage before the shutter. The IO said a case under Sections 447 (criminal trespass) and 511 (attempt to commit an offense punishable with life imprisonment) of the IPC had been registered against the suspect.
