Narcotic pills worth Rs 2.01 cr seized

Five days after the arrest of two Ludhiana residents, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police today seized a huge quantity of intoxicant capsules and tablets worth Rs 2.01 crore. The recovery includes; 4.65 lakh buprenorphine tablets, 3.61 lakh tramadol tablets, 58,000 alprazolam tablets, 4.19 lakh clonazepam tablets, 1.17 lakh tramadol capsules and 1,149 codeine syrups, taking the total to 13.85 lakh tablets, 1.17 lakh capsules and 1,149 bottles.

After interrogating the two accused, Piyush Arora and Sunny, who were arrested on October 14 for possessing around 27,000 narcotic pills, the police here managed to gain more information and recovered another major drug haul.

A team of the city Commissionerate Police, with the help of the Ludhiana Drug Department, also recovered medicines worth Rs 1 crore under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said a police team raided a house in Chet Singh Nagar, Ludhiana on October 17 night, on the basis of the information revealed by Piyush Arora. He said the team called the local municipal councillor at the spot and went inside the house and sealed the four rooms in his presence. The raid continued for 14 hours.

“Next morning, city police contacted the local drug department and a team headed by the Ludhiana Zonal Licensing Authority Kulwinder Singh and other drug inspectors. The team scanned all four rooms along with municipal councillor and one relative of the third accused Vikas Bansal (who is absconding) and spotted several boxes stored there. Besides, intoxicants, the police also confiscated 11.49 lakh tablets, 10,000 injections and 6,000 syrups under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
