Hoshiarpur, January 25
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Komal Mittal said to be a part of democracy, it was necessary to become a voter and they have an important role in building a strong democracy. She was addressing as the chief guest at the district- level National Voters’ Day function at Panjab University Swami Sarvanand Giri Regional Centre (PUSSGRC), Hoshiarpur, on Thursday. During this, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rahul Chaba, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Balraj Singh, SDM Hoshiarpur Preetinder Singh were also present. On the occasion, Director of the Regional Centre Dr HS Bains welcomed the guests.
The district election officer said that in today’s programme, children from schools and colleges depicted India’s strong democracy and the importance of voting through cultural programmes, poetry and drama. While wishing the people of the district on National Voters’ Day, she called upon them to exercise their franchise in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for sure. She said along with casting their vote, young voters should also motivate others to cast their vote as the right to vote was a very important right. She said, “It is very important for all of us to participate in the festival of democracy and we should exercise our franchise on the basis of our conscience without being influenced by any greed.”
During the programme, CD issued by the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, regarding National Voters’ Day was also shown through the projector.
Komal Mittal awarded SDM Mukerian Ashok Kumar as best ARO, assistant professor PUSSGRC Vinay Kumar as the best nodal officer for colleges and BLO Rakesh Kumar of booth number 83 of Mukerian was honoured as the best BLO. Apart from this, other officers and employees who played important role in the election process were also honoured.
Apart from the students who participated in quiz, slogan, speech, essay and painting competition, the Deputy Commissioner also honoured the students who presented cultural programmes. Street plays, songs, theatre arts, war singing, dialects, bhangra and giddha related to voter awareness were also performed.
