Nawanshahr admn hosts mega women’s health, placement camp

The District Administration organised a large-scale women’s health and placement camp at ITI Ground, Nawanshahr, aiming to empower women through health services, employment opportunities and awareness about government schemes. Around 450 women attended the event, which featured cultural performances, expert lectures and motivational talks. One of the highlights was a speech by former State Information Commissioner and Director of Punjab Lit Foundation, Khushwant Singh, who provided a powerful message on women’s empowerment.

The event also included a poetry recital by the BDPO Nawanshahr, focusing on government initiatives for women. The district administration reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to empowering women through health, education and employment initiatives.

As part of the event, the Punjab Lit Foundation launched the ‘Mothers Against Drugs’ awareness programme, which aimed to engage mothers in the fight against drug abuse. Khushwant Singh emphasised the critical role of mothers in preventing drug addiction, stating, “Punjab’s fight against drugs begins at home, with mothers leading the way. When armed with knowledge and support, they can become the strongest force against this crisis.”

Psychologist Gaurav Gill addressed the gathering. He spoke about the behavioural changes in children, while Pankaj Mahajan, a recovered drug addict, shared his journey of overcoming addiction, crediting his mother as his biggest strength.

In her closing remarks, Sanna Kaushal, Director of Punjab Lit Foundation, stressed the importance of empowering mothers. “A mother is the first checkpost between her child and drugs. When mothers are vigilant and informed, the drug menace can be nipped in the bud,” she said. Kaushal also shared that this was the fourth awareness programme by the Punjab Lit Foundation, which aims to reach all 23 districts of Punjab this year, engaging mothers in this vital issue.
