NCC cadets who were part of march past at Independence Day function felicitated

Jalandhar, August 22

Nearly 35 NCC cadets, who were a part of the march past at the state-level Independence Day parade at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium here, were felicitated at 2 Punjab NCC Battalion Headquarters by Col Vinod Joshi.

The Commanding Officer awarded NCC track suits and certificates of appreciation to these cadets who were chosen from different colleges and schools. According to Col Joshi, two NCC contingents, one from the girls’ battalion and another from boys, participate in the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium on Independence Day each year. This time, the squad for march past was prepared in just 10 days.

Over a 100 cadets had expressed their desire to take part in the march past of which 35 were chosen for the drill squad following a strict selection procedure. According to Col Joshi, seven drill units saluted Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the special guests on Independence Day. In attendance were Brig Ajay Tiwari, Group Commander, NCC Jalandhar Group, and Col MS Sachdev, Commanding Officer, 2 Girls’ NCC Battalion.

There were seven drill squads, namely, the Punjab Armed Police, Punjab Police, ITBP, CRPF, Chandigarh Police, 2 Punjab NCC Battalion and 2 Punjab Girls’ NCC Battalion. After group photo with cadets, the CM said to the NCC cadets that they needed to work hard if they wanted to contribute for a progressive Punjab. Brig Ajay Tewari motivated the cadets to participate in national camps on Republic Day and become commissioned officers. The parade commander of the drill squad of 2 Punjab NCC Battalion was Under Officer Prince, who is a student of Lyallpur Khalsa College. Drill instructor Subedar Charanjit Singh and Drill Havildar Gurcharan Singh made a special contribution in preparing the squad.
