The victim disclosed the ordeal to her mother after initial suspicions. The family then approached the Nangal Shama police post under the Rama Mandi police station and filed a written complaint.

Sub-Inspector Parminder Kaur, investigating officer (IO), registered an FIR, following which the suspect was arrested. The girl underwent medical examination at the Jalandhar Civil Hospital. The results of her medical report are awaited.

The police confirmed that being less than 18-year-old, the victim was a minor at the time of the incident. However, she was now 18. The suspect was produced in a court which remanded him to police custody for further questioning. The police said the suspect would be sent to jail following interrogation.
