New MC Commissioner Gautam Jain assumed charge today. Former MC Commissioner Aditya Uppal remained on the post hardly for a month.

Accountability of officials concerned has lost with frequent change of MC Commissioners. City residents feel they should not again pin hopes on the new MC Commissioner because nobody knows what will happen now. They want him to be on the post here for a long time so that some work could be done on ground.

“Even before someone understands and starts work, the official is transferred,” said a city based businessman. He said no development work was being done here because nobody was allowed to remain here for a good amount of time.

Gautam Jain, while talking to mediapersons, said he would ensure cleanliness in the city and ensure completion of development works.

There is no headway in any of the projects under the Smart City. Cleanliness has taken a backseat in the city. At times, sewage treatment plants are non-functional. Condition of roads is poor and streetlights are lying defunct. No new tenders have been floated for civil works.

Since last year, the MC has seen several Commissioners as nobody remained on the post for more than three to four months. It affected the smooth functioning of the civic body. Before Jain, Aditya Uppal took charge as the new MC Commissioner. Before Jain assumed the charge, the post remained vacant for more than 15 days. This happened for the first time.
