Newborn found abandoned in Phillaur village, dies

Jalandhar: A newborn (six-month-old) baby boy was on Wednesday found abandoned near a dump at Landhara village in Phillaur tehsil of the district. Wrapped in a blue cloth, the newborn was first spotted by a local resident who informed the police about the child. The incident was reported at around 6.30am when the child was found drenched with rainwater. With the help of the police, the child was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him 30 per cent alive. His heartbeat had slowed down due to the rain. Inspector Sanjeev Kapoor, SHO, Phillaur, said the newborn failed to respond to the treatment and died at around 4pm. The whole incident was captured in a CCTV, in which a woman was seen dumping the child. The child reportedly continued to get drenched with rain for over half an hour. The Inspector said a case was registered under Section 318 of the IPC in this regard. The accused would be arrested soon. “The footage of CCTVs installed in the village is being checked to identify the accused,” added Sanjeev Kapoor. TNS

NGO donates Rs2L to relief society

Jalandhar: Extending help in the ongoing war against the Covid-19 pandemic, Hamco Cheritable Trust, an NGO, on Wednesday donated Rs 2 lakh to the district relief funds. While handing over the contribution to Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, Shant Kumar Gupta, chairman of the NGO, said the pandemic can be won over only with collective efforts of society and being responsible citizens. It’s the need of the hour that every citizen works shoulder to shoulder with the local administration.
