The Municipal Corporation (MC) Kapurthala has declared nine buildings in the city as unsafe and unfit for habitation, issuing urgent notices to their owners following a joint inspection conducted on Sunday.

The inspection team was led by Municipal Commissioner Anupam Kaler, who was accompanied by a municipal councillor, the Superintending Engineer (SE) and the Town Planner. The officials visited several sites across the city where old and dilapidated structures had been reported by residents and other sources. During the inspection, nine buildings were found to be in a dangerous condition, sparking concerns over potential mishaps if they remain occupied.

According to MC officials, direct notices were handed to the owners of three buildings. In the case of the remaining six structures, where the owners could not be located, notices were pasted on the exterior walls to formally notify them.

The Municipal Corporation has appealed to the occupants of these buildings to vacate the premises immediately and shift to night shelters operated by the MC until safer arrangements are made. “Public safety is our top priority. People are urged not to risk their lives by continuing to reside in these dangerous structures,” Commissioner Kaler said.

Among the buildings identified as unsafe are an old structure in Kasawa Bazar and a portion of the outer wall of the City Police Station, both of which show significant signs of wear, tear and structural instability.

Officials have warned that strict action will be taken against property owners who fail to comply with the safety notices.
