The city police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the murder of Nitin Arora by arresting the main accused and seized illegal pistols and live cartridges from his possession.
The accused had been identified as notorious gangster Akashdeep Singh of Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Nagar and was nabbed near Paragpur on Wednesday. The police also recovered two pistols, four live cartridges and a bike bearing registration number PB10-EK-2959 from the suspect.
Disclosing further information, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said Akashdeep along with accomplices Rajat Gantotra of Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Nagar, Nitin Arora and others used to commit crimes on the behest of gangsters Dalbir Singh Beera of Raj Nagar, Gopi Bajwa of Raja Garden Extension and Prince Baba of Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Nagar.
“On July 5 and 6, Akashdeep, Rajat, Nitin along with unidentified persons were hatching a conspiracy to strike on the rivals in Jalandhar, but Akashdeep and Rajat indulged in arguments with Nitin on some issue following which Akashdeep opened fire on Nitin and fled away. Subsequently, during the treatment at DMC in Ludhiana, Nitin succumbed to his injuries. Thereafter, a team of the CIA and the Bhargo Camp police nabbed Rajat and brought Dalbir Singh Beera from Amritsar jail on production warrant and took Sahil of Bohra Colony, Ferozepur, into its custody after his name was surfaced in the interrogation that he was staying in the house where crime occurred but did not inform the police about the incident.
An FIR under Sections 302,160,148,149,120-B of the IPC, 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act and 3 of the Epidemic Disease Act has been registered against the suspect, who would shortly be produced before a local court for police custody .
