NIT’s Abhay Singh secures AIR 1 in GATE

A student of Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT) has demonstrated academic excellence in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025. Leading this achievement is Abhay Singh, a Civil Engineering graduate, who secured the All India Rank (AIR) 1, a remarkable leap from his previous AIR 1659 in 2024. Hailing from Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, Abhay completed his BTech in Civil Engineering at NIT, Jalandhar.

He dedicated himself to preparation for GATE, the Indian Engineering Services (IES), and the Civil Services Examination under the guidance of his professors in the Department of Civil Engineering. He attributes his success to a solid grasp of fundamental concepts, the unwavering support of his family and the mentorship of his professors, particularly Prof SP Singh, under whose guidance he completed his final-year project.

Beyond Abhay’s outstanding performance, NIT, Jalandhar, celebrates the success of over 70 students from all engineering departments of the institute who qualified in GATE 2025. Nine students secured ranks within top 50, more than 12 students secured ranks within top 100 and 25 students ranked under 500.

Many public sector undertakings (PSUs) recruit engineers directly through GATE score with high-paying jobs. While some international universities also consider GATE scores for admission, this exam is the gateway for opportunities in esteemed research institutions such as DRDO and ISRO. Jalandhar NIT’s comprehensively designed curriculum is strategically aligned with GATE, providing students with a strong conceptual foundation and competitive edge to secure top ranks.

The NIT, Jalandhar, achieved an 87 per cent placement rate in 2023-2024, with 700 BTech students getting jobs out of 811 eligible candidates. The highest package was Rs 52 lakh per annum (LPA), with an average of Rs 9.48 LPA. Over 220 recruiters, including KPMG, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Texas Instruments, BPCL and Adani Group, participated in the placement drive, highlighting the institute’s strong industry ties.
