In a move to streamline traffic enforcement, the Commissionerate Police, Jalandhar, has launched an e-challaning process.

Payment on the spot

To facilitate the on-the-spot payments and avoid long queues, the police carry point-of-sale machines at the nakas. This system allows violators to pay fines immediately, ensuring a quick and efficient resolution of traffic violations.

Under this initiative, aiming to modernise the challaning system and improving compliance with traffic regulations, the traffic police have launched a special drive against traffic violators, especially against drunk drivers.

The e-challaning process has been implemented across Jalandhar city, spearheaded by Aditya, ADCP-2, and Aatish Bhatia, ACP, Traffic. The new system promises a hassle-free and swift process to impose fine to traffic violators.

To ensure the comprehensive coverage and effective implementation, 17 nakas (14 nakas during the day, while three shifting nakas at night) have been set up throughout the city.

In the last two days, 87 challans, including eight for drunk driving, were issued. Of this, 64 challans were issued on Wednesday and 23 challans till 4 pm on Thursday and offenders faced instant fines for infractions, including motorcycle triple-riding, the use of modified silencers and the absence of proper documentation.

To facilitate the on-the-spot payments and avoid long queues, the police carry point-of-sale (POS) machines at the nakas. This system allows violators to pay fines immediately, ensuring a quick and efficient resolution of traffic violations.

Aatish Bhatia, ACP, Traffic, said following complaints of traffic violations, th drive had been started and it would continue in the coming days until its objectives were met.

“Three special teams have been deployed at vulnerable points, including the PPR market, Urban Estate, Satluj Cinema Chowk, Rama Mandi, etc to tighten the noose around the violators”, he added.

“The introduction of e-challaning is expected to improve the traffic management in Jalandhar. By leveraging technology, the Commissionerate Police aims to promote road safety, enhance compliance with traffic rules and reduce instances of manual error in the challaning process”, said CP Swapan Sharma.

He said residents and motorists were encouraged to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to avoid penalties.
