Jalandhar, August 25

The Jalandhar Commissionerate police have filed charges against an NRI who allegedly acquired an immigration licence from the administration through fraudulent means. The suspect, identified as Anmoldeep Singh, who is a Canadian citizen and originally hails from Vivekanand Park in the Maqsudan area here, is currently under investigation with his arrest still pending.

The case against Singh has been registered under Sections 13 (1) and 16 of the Punjab Travel Professions Regulation Act and Section 177 of the BNS at the Navi Baradari police station.

According to sources, the investigation was initiated after a formal complaint was lodged with the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner (DC) demanding an inquiry into legitimacy of Singh’s immigration licence and its subsequent cancellation.

The inquiry revealed that Singh, a resident of Canada, had illegally obtained an immigration licence. The complaint, which was originally filed in April last year, prompted administration officials to investigate the matter.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Singh operates an immigration consultancy named — Canadian Immigration Consultant — located at the AGI Business Centre here on Garha Road. The FIR states that Singh secured the government-issued licence by presenting false information, a claim that was substantiated during the administration’s investigation.

Upon confirming the allegations, legal advice was sought from the District Attorney (DA), Legal. A report was subsequently prepared and submitted to the police, leading to the immediate registration of the case against Singh.

“The FIR was registered on Friday after we received a report from the district administration in this regard. Further investigation into the case is underway. Efforts are on to locate the suspect,” said Kamaljeet Singh, SHO, Navi Baradari police station.
