Officials face villagers’ wrath, had gone for land possession

Administrative and police officers who had gone to hand over the possession of the house to Amandeep Singh Randhawa, son of Ajit Singh Randhawa of Jalandhar, on the orders of the court had to face opposition from around 250 persons on Saturday. It is alleged that the people blocked the way by placing trailers on the road and some were even seen carrying sharp-edged weapons and bricks. The Garhshankar police have registered a case on the statement of Naib Tehsildar Jagpal Singh.

There was a clash between the police and the villagers, in which the police also used mild force to disperse the people. Despite this, the officers and police had to return empty-handed.

In a complaint to the police, the Naib Tehsildar said that he, along with Amandeep, and other police officers reached near the ‘occupied’ land at the village. Around 250 men and women of the villages were present on the street and on the roofs of the houses. They had blocked the way and those present on the roofs were carrying bricks and sharp-edged weapons. The Naib Tehsildar further said that these people stopped them from performing government duty and so the police have registered a case against them.

Amandeep said that he had 8 marlas in the village and he had gone to take its possession, but the people there did not allow it, and now the administration would take action in this regard.

Meanwhile, Gurmeet Singh, who is living in a house on the said piece of land, said that elders of their family had sold some barren land about 30 years ago. But in the registry the ‘khasra’ number of their house was wrongly mentioned in the sale deed. He said that after this the said land was further sold to two other parties. “Now, the person who has the title of that barren land wants to forcibly occupy our house also, whereas they are ready for a compromise,” he added.

Former block committee member Suchha Singh, sarpanch Khem Raj and other villagers present on this occasion said that the family living in the said house made a living by selling milk and taking possession of this house would make them roofless. They said that they would try to reach a compromise.
