An oil tanker hit some persons standing in support of members of the Tipper Union who were sitting on a dharna near Aima Mangat in Mukerian on the Jalandhar-Pathankot main road around 10.30 pm on Saturday night.

One person died in this accident while two pesons were seriously injured who were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Mukerian.

ASI Gurinderjit Singh said an oil tanker was going from Pathankot to Jalandhar around 10.30 pm on Saturday night. When the tanker reached the spot, it went out of control and hit the people protesting on the roadside, killing one person and seriously injuring two.

The deceased in the accident has been identified as Lakhwinder Singh (27), son of Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Umarpur Tehsil Mukerian, while Gagan Sharma, son of Charanjit Sharma, a resident of Harigarh Barnala and Daljit Singh, son of Gurdas Singh, a resident of Kulian, were seriously injured. The Mukerian police have taken the vehicle into custody and started proceedings.
