On National Girl Child Day, Kapurthala admn comes up with ‘Badlav’ documentary
To promote education and health services for girls, the Kapurthala district administration has come up with a documentary film titled ‘Badlav’ under the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign on the occasion of National Girl Child Day.
This 5.57-minute film has been inspired by the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev on the greatness of women. It aims to encourage equal opportunities for girls in education and other fields to ensure their equal participation in social and economic development.
During the release event today at the DAC, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal stated that the reformative measures taken by the Kapurthala administration have helped the district lead in sex ratio across the state. In Kapurthala, the sex ratio stands at 987 girls against 1,000 boys, which is the highest among all districts in the state.
He said, “The film provides detailed information about the facilities offered by the Punjab Government for girls — from pregnancy to birth of child and till marriage of a girl.
Panchal said the objective of making the ‘Badlav’ film is to spread awareness about the facilities provided by the state government and Union Government for girls, ensuring that no eligible girl is left out.
The film’s script was prepared by a ‘Concept Committee’ of officials and experts. It was shot at significant locations in Kapurthala, including Gurudwara Shri Ber Sahib in Sultanpur Lodhi, the Holy Kali Bein, Government Girls SS School, Ghanta Ghar, anganwadi centres, govt hospitals, villages and cities, also highlighting historically important sites of the district.
The film showcases various services being provided to pregnant women, including nutrition through anganwadi centres, maternal and child care, free health check-ups by the Health Department, free vaccinations, education, Punjab Government scholarships, women’s safety helplines, and the Shagun Scheme, which offers financial assistance of Rs 51,000.
Additionally, it highlights the achievements of girls in sports, science and politics. He said the district administration plans to use the film on multiple platforms to raise awareness about the welfare schemes for girls.
It will be shared with the Punjab Government’s Social Security Department and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Central Government for broader dissemination and benefit.
DPRO Subeg Singh Dhanju and DPO Rajeev Dhanda said the script of the film was based on changing parental attitudes towards girls, encouraging them to step beyond traditional roles and contribute significantly to society’s progress in various fields.
