The district police placed Bhartiya Kisan Union Doaba state president Manjit Singh Rai under house arrest.

Rai said on May 6, farmers were to hold a peaceful protest in front of Shambhu police station and to stop them, the police have started detaining leaders of farm organisations at their homes on the instigation of the government. Rai said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also tweeted that if anyone holds a protest, legal action will be taken against them.

He said the voice of the farmers cannot be suppressed by placing them under house arrest. He said the struggle of the farmers for their legitimate demands will continue.
