One-Stop Centre, women helpline to be integrated

To provide every possible assistance to women, affected by violence or other trauma round-the-clock, Sakhi—a ‘One-Stop Centre’ in Jalandhar—will be integrated with 181 women helpline of the Punjab Police soon.
Jalandhar is among the four districts of the state, including Ferozepur, SAS Nagar and Roop Nagar where the centre’ will be integrated with women helpline in the state.
Integration of the centre with women helpline will make services more accessible to women in distress, telephonically. A web-based software is being developed with the help of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for the integration of the helpline.

Divulging the details, Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma said: “The centre’ is already offering police assistance, healthcare, shelter, legal and psychological help to rape victims, domestic violence, physical and mental harassment, besides others.”
“Integration of the centre with women helpline will make services more accessible to women in distress, telephonically. A web-based software is being developed with the help of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for the integration of the helpline,” added the DC
He said: “Two women cops will be especially deputed for the operation of the helpline at the centre, for which the department of social security, women and child development has been directed to provide infrastructure at the new building.”
The Deputy Commissioner said the construction work of a new building at Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Civil Hospital will be completed within a fortnight. He further informed that an amount of Rs 48 lakh is being spent on the construction of the building, which will have separate rooms for medical aid, police assistance, legal aid/case management, psychosocial counselling and temporary residential accommodation for the victims if needed.
He said aggrieved women could either reach the centre personally or over the phone by contacting the centre on the helpline.
