Ladowali Road worst affected

The condition of roads has deteriorated significantly, especially after recent rains. An already a poor situation has now turned into a daily struggle for commuters, with potholes scattered across almost every stretch in the city. The ride has become not only uncomfortable, but also dangerous, particularly for two-wheeler riders who are at constant risk of skidding or losing balance while driving. One of the worst-affected areas is Ladowali Road, where the road surface is so damaged that navigating through ti feels more like an obstacle than a daily commute. Despite visible public inconvenience, the civic authorities have failed to take any meaningful action to redress the issue. The lack of timely maintenance and repair is causing severe disruption and posing safety hazards for residents. It’s high time the department concerned steps in to address this issue and ensure safe and smooth travel for everyone before it leads to serious accidents or injuries.

People devoid of basic facilities

Basic civic amenities in the city are in a dismal state, with poorly maintained roads being one of the most glaring issues. Most roads are riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces, making daily commuting a painful experience. It’s not uncommon for people to suffer from backaches or cervical pain after traveling on these bumpy stretches, especially for those using two-wheelers. Despite being law-abiding citizens, who pay taxes regularly, we are not getting even the most fundamental infrastructure in return — safe and motorable roads. It is both frustrating and disappointing to see such negligence from the authorities concerned. The situation worsens during and after rains, turning roads into hazardous zones. It raises serious concerns about public safety and the accountability of the civic body. Immediate attention and action are required to improve road conditions and provide citizens with the basic facilities they rightly deserve.

Road repairs must be lasting

Despite the ongoing suffering of city residents, the Municipal Corporation remains indifferent, showing little initiative to resolve persistent issues. Daily complaints pour in about the poor condition of roads, yet no significant action is taken in this connection. In some areas, minimal patchwork is done, but this temporary fix raises serious concerns. How long will it last? Residents are left to navigate unsafe, deteriorating roads while the authorities concerned appear unmoved. The lack of accountability and urgency reflects a disturbing neglect of public welfare. Citizens deserve better infrastructure, not short-term solutions that crumble with time. It’s time for meaningful, lasting repairs and not just surface-level fixes.

What’s the Issue

From Fauja Singh to Richi Kaypee and learner driver’s negligent barge into Manoranjan Kaila’s house gate on September 28, the frequency of freak accidents in Jalandhar has picked up dramatically. The victims are not underprivileged. Accidents spread fear of something untoward happening in the future. Only stringent policing and awareness campaigns will bring down such incidence.

QUESTION for next week

The incidents of reckless driving in Jalandhar have set alarm bells ringing. Shouldn't the law enforcement agencies start penalisation as well as sensitisation drives which ensure that emboldened rowdies flouting the traffic rules with impunity are checked.
