Over 3 lakh MT of wheat arrives in Kapurthala mandis

Rs 623.28 crore transferred to farmers’ bank accounts

The arrival of wheat in mandis of Kapurthala district has crossed the 3 lakh metric tonne (MT) mark. Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal informed that till yesterday, a total of 301,394 metric tonnes of wheat had arrived in the district’s mandis, out of which government procurement agencies have purchased 295,198 metric tonnes — accounting for 98 per cent of the total arrival.

He stated that due to a bumper wheat crop in the district, the official procurement target of 361,250 metric tonnes is expected to be achieved soon. Panchal further added that Markfed and Pungrain have each procured 26 per cent of the wheat, while Punjab State Warehousing Corporation and Pungrain have accounted for 16 per cent and 24 per cent, respectively.

Speaking about payments to farmers, the Deputy Commissioner said that payments are being made within 24 hours, and so far, Rs 623.28 crore has been transferred directly into the farmers’ bank accounts. Additionally, lifting of nearly 1.50 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has also been completed.
