Over 65% paddy harvest completed in Nawanshahr

The paddy harvesting season is in full swing in Nawanshahr, with farmers across the district actively harvesting the crop and visiting the mandis. So far, 65 per cent of the paddy crop has been harvested.

Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh held a review meeting with concerned officials today to assess the ongoing management of paddy stubble during the current harvest season. The DC highlighted that large-scale efforts are underway across the district to ensure proper handling and management of paddy residue.

Singh stated, “More than 65 per cent of the paddy crop has already been harvested in the district and with the cooperation of farmers, stubble management activities are progressing in the right direction.”

He instructed officials to strictly enforce the complete ban on stubble burning, as mandated by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), New Delhi and the Supreme Court of India, emphasizing that compliance with these guidelines must be ensured at all costs.

Officials reported that one farmer in the district was penalised with an environmental compensation of Rs 10,000, along with a red entry and FIR registration for burning stubble. They added that strict action will continue against anyone found violating the ban on stubble burning.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to all farmers to refrain from setting fire to crop residue or paddy stubble, urging their cooperation in protecting the environment from pollution.
