Over 800 houses damaged in Jalandhar, periphery

Over 800 houses have got damaged in the city and its periphery in the past few weeks due to rain and flooding.

Of these 85 houses have got partially or fully damaged in the city while 200 got affected in Nakodar and 80 in Phillaur. Officials of the Revenue Department have been making assessments regarding the damage so that the affected families could be compensated.

Punjab Horticulture and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat on Wednesday directed revenue officials to ensure proper verification of claims of damaged houses due to incessant rain and floods, stressing that no affected family should be left without aid from the government.

Chairing a meeting with officials at the District Administrative Complex, Bhagat instructed patwaris to visit every applicant who has lodged claims of house damage and complete timely verification.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the District Planning Committee Amritpal Singh also directed patwaris to ensure prompt verification of every damaged house, adding that the government has already announced compensation for affected families and none should be left out.
