A 62-year-old woman was attacked by stray dogs at Kandola village in Adampur on Saturday. The attack was so ferocious that half of one of her ears was eaten by the dogs.
The shocking incident is the second such case reported in the last one month in the district.
On December 14, 2024, a pack of dogs had attacked a 65-year-old woman who was returning from the gurdwara at DD Enclave in Jalandhar. The CCTV footage of the attacks on the woman had also gone viral recently again — prompting many media outlets at the national level to run it. With these cases, the problem of canines in Jalandhar is gaining widespread notoriety.
In the recent case, the woman, Gyan Kaura, was going to the gurdwara when she was attacked by a pack of dogs. While the dogs pounced upon her, the woman fell down and half her ear was eaten away by ferocious canines. She has also sustained several other injuries. The woman was first admitted to the Adampur Civil Hospital from where she was shifted to a hospital in Jalandhar.
Sarpanch of the village Manjit Singh said, “This is the second incident of dog attack in our village. A few days ago a child had also been attacked by dogs.”
He added, “Stray and wild dogs pose repeated problems in the village. It is illegal to hurt these dogs. We have dropped some of them outside the village after the incident. A village delegation will also meet the Adampur SDM on the issue on Monday.”
