Pact for employability courses signed

Jalandhar: Lyallpur Khalsa College Technical Campus, Secure Hack, Mohali, and O7 Services, Jalandhar, have signed an MoU for providing employability skills in the students of engineering, IT and management and making them industry ready. Through this MoU, students will get an opportunity to have hands on practicing sessions on cyber security, artificial intelligence and data science. It was signed by Prof RS Deol, deputy director, KCL group, and Sandeep Bansal from Secure Hack, Mohali, and by Anoop Sharma from O7 Services. Sukhbir Singh Chatha, director academic affairs encouraged the training and placement department and CSE department for organising these types of activities as they are focused on fostering the employability skills among the aspirants and help them in hunting the jobs without hiccup.

Subroto Cup Football Tournament

KVS National Subroto Cup Football Tournament for boys U-17 category was inaugurated on Wednesday at the premises of Lovely Professional University, Phagwara. The five-day tournament is featuring 396 participants from 25 regions of U-17 boys from Kendriya Vidyalayas across the nation. Surinder Singh Sodhi, Olympian and former captain of the Indian hockey team, graced the occasion as chief guest of the day. The guest of honour was VKaul, Director of Sports, LPU. T Brahmanandam, Assistant Commissioner, KVS, RO, Chandigarh, presented the welcome address at the inaugural function. The programme commenced with lighting of the lamp followed by flag hoisting. The march past performed by the students of 25 diverse regions of India was the programme’s standout feature. The participants entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the oath taking ceremony. Cultural performances by the students kept the audience enthralled. In his address, the chief guest emphasised the importance of sports in the holistic development of the students. He applauded the role of KVS in conducting such activities round the year. At the end, vote of thanks was proposed by Karambir Singh, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 4.

Skill development classes organised

Apeejay College of Fine Arts has set up an example while contributing for the social cause by organising the free skill development classes for the students of XIIth standard. The PG Department of Music Instrumental organised Western and Indian Classical instruments in which Dr Seema and Dr Sumit from the Department of Music Instrumental taught the students about the basic principles of playing keyboard and guitar. Dr Seema taught them about the role of both right and left fingers while playing the guitar and Dr Sumit established the comparative analysis between the western and Indian music. He put forth that the western notes—C D E F G A B are same as Indian Sargam. During the classes, the students had learnt playing religious hymns, Bollywood songs on C major scale along with few lessons on strumming. Principal Neerja Dhingra appreciated the dedication of the students and praised their performances during the valedictory ceremony.

Van Mahotsav celebrated

The NSS unit of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, organised Van Mahotsav under the guidance of Principal Ajay Sareen under the aegis of Environment, Forest and Climate Ministry, Govt. of India. Under this, the NSS unit organised green festival, green oath taking ceremony. On the occasion, Principal Ajay Sareen, NSS unit advisor Dr Anjana Bhatia, programme officer Harmanu Paul, school coordinator Meenakshi Sayal and Dr Shailendra Kumar along with NSS volunteers planted trees in the campus and took oath for the protection and conservation of environment. The Principal said, “The conservation of environment is our top most priority and moral duty so that we can safeguard the future of our coming generation. Increasing level of pollution is another big problem before us. We should take necessary steps against pollution so that we can protect our mother nature.” NSS volunteers took oath to plant more trees, shun the use of plastic and to conserve energy and water. NSS programme advisor Anjana Bhatia made the students aware about the protection of environment.

Social Outreach Activity conducted

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised a Social Outreach Activity at Banarasi Dass Charitable School, Transport Nagar. The programme was organised by the PG Department of Mathematics. Students of master science (mathematics) semester II and IV and bachelor of science (honours) mathematics semester IV along with three teachers— Anand Prabha, Dr Monika and Kirandeep Kaur—participated in this activity. It was a one-day grooming camp where students of LKG to sixth standard were taught basics of mathematics like addition, subtraction, multiplication and number system etc. Different charts depicting counting from 1 to 100, multiplication tables, Indian place value system, international place value system, mathematical shapes were displayed in school classrooms. Dr Monika throws a light on the Indian place value system and international place value system. Kiran demonstrated different mathematical shapes through the mathematical kit. Moreover, students of MSc and BSc prepared seed balls in the shape of rectangle, triangle, cylinder, cone etc. and they planted the same in school premises to make students aware about importance of plantation for the existence of life. A chart on hygiene habits especially how to wash your hands was displayed in the premises of the school and Anand Prabha from the maths department demonstrated how to wash the hands before and after meal for inculcating a habit of hygiene among them. To enjoy the happiness of giving, Mahrukh Khurshid, Nimanshi, Himani and Harpreet Kaur, students of bachelor of science (honours) mathematics semester-IV, distributed notebooks, pencils, erasers, sharpeners and eatables among needy students. Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that these kind of activities inculcated the habit of sharing and caring among the students.

Circle time activities at Eklavya School

Circle time activities were organised at Eklavya School to promote gross motor skills as it improves coordination. The pre-primary kids of school did various circle time activities. The kids of nursery class stood in a circular form and played passing a ball. Director Seema Handa shared her views on circle time activities. She said circle time was one of the things young children look forward at school. They enjoy it because they take turns in leading circle games. The students of LKG class played Chinese whisper game. This game is primarily used to identify the type of information that is more easily passed from one student to another. It helps to improve the listening skills. The Principal of Eklavya School, Komal Arora, appreciated the activities done by the students and said circle time was a time for important social interaction among young children. The kids of UKG class made a circle and one by one came and recite rhymes in the centre of the circle. Administrator Dimple Malhotra said that circle time activities built a sense of togetherness, a time of sharing and a fun learning environment for kids.

World chess day at DIPs school

Chess competition was organised on World Chess Day at DIPS School, Kapurthala. In the competition, the students of senior category performed well by playing various rounds. The competition was held under the guidance of sports in-charge of DIPS Manmohan Singh. The programme started with the Head Girl and Head Boy giving information about the history of the game. During the competition, four rounds were conducted among the students from Class IX to XII. Ajit Singh of Class 10 became the champion of the day. Principal Dimple Sharma, Vice-Principal Varinder Sharma, sports in charge Manmohan Singh and school sports coach Kulbir Singh honoured the winning students with certificates. Seeing the tremendous performance of the girl students, the Principal said that chess was not just a game but it also helped in improving the intellectual abilities. This increases the focus power of the mind and helps in focusing. Chess instills confidence in children, MD Tarwinder Singh said. During the game, their thinking ability reaches new heights when thinking about the next move. They can easily understand the subject like mathematics, science and can solve the problem easily. CEO Monica Mandotra said the game was the best and least expensive tool for brain exercise.
