Expressing serious concern over the rising incidents of shootings, extortion and gang clashes in Punjab, All India Congress Committee Secretary and MLA Pargat Singh said that the law and order situation in the state has reached an alarming point.
He said the current government has completely failed to curb crime. Recent incidents of firing have created an atmosphere of fear among the people. The gang war in Banga, where over three dozen rounds were fired merely 200 meters from a police station, is proof that criminals no longer fear the police or the government. He said Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann should resign on moral grounds.
Pargat Singh added that the daylight murder of RSS leader's grandson Naveen Arora in Ferozepur, the killing of trader Ravi Dhillon in Gurdaspur, the armed attack and kidnapping attempt on kidney specialist Dr Rahul Sood in Jalandhar have all exposed the state's fragile security apparatus.
The MLA said that business and trading communities across Punjab are filing frequent complaints of extortion, but police response has been slow and insufficient. This failure has left businessmen and traders feeling unsafe.
Referring to the recent crime spree, he said that the daylight murder of businessman Sanjay Verma in Abohar, the assault on a doctor in Moga, the armed attack on a YouTuber's residence in Jalandhar, and the grenade attack on former Cabinet Minister Manoranjan Kalia's house-all point to criminals operating fearlessly and with impunity.
Singh emphasised that inter-gang rivalries are escalating across Punjab due to the absence of strong intelligence inputs and preventive action-clear evidence of government failure. In sharp words, Pargat Singh remarked that earlier, Bihar was infamous for lawlessness, but Punjab has now overtaken it. The state, he warned, is becoming a new haven for gangsters.
