Phagwara: The police have successfully solved a case of theft and arrested two persons. Phagwara DSP AR Sharma on Tuesday said the arrested accused were identified as Neeraj Kumar and Vijay Kumar, both residents of Mohalla Soodan, Phagwara. The police have recovered cash of Rs 3.23 lakh and a 4-gm gold coin from the arrested duo. DSP told media that they have confessed the crime committed on June 17. He said the accused stole Rs 3.50 lakh and had spent Rs 27,000 from the stolen amount . A case under Sections 454, 380 and 411 of the IPC has been registered. The DSP said both accused would be produced before the Judicial Magistrate to seek police remand for further investigation. OC
Seven booked for damaging vehicles
Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by Maninder Singh, a resident of Arjunpra Daddal Mohalla, Phagwara, the police have registered a case under Sections 160, 427, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC against four persons identified as Ravi, Neena, Sagar, Himanshu and their three other unknown accomplices on the charges of vandalising and damaging 13 vehicles parked outside the houses in Daddal Mohalla in wee hours of Monday. The DSP said the accused damaged vehicles around 3 am on Monday and threatened few resident before fleeing. OC
Juvenile held for raping 65-yr-old
Nakodar: The Mehatpur police on Tuesday arrested a juvenile on the charge of raping 65-year-old woman. The victim complained to the police that the accused barged into her house on June 19 night, tied her legs and arms and raped her after threatening her with dire consequences. A case under Sections 376 (rape) 457 (housebreaking to commit offence punishable with jail) and 506 (criminal intimidation) has been registered against the accused. OC
Woman booked for cheating
Shahkot: The Shahkot police have booked a woman on the charges of cheating and breach of trust. Investigating Officer (IO) Som Nath said the accused has been identified as Puneet, a resident of Daulat Pur Dhadda village. Sarabjit Singh, a resident of the same village, complained to the police that the accused married him in 2015 on the promise of migrating him to Canada and he paid Rs 42 lakh to her but he could not sent him abroad. The IO said a case under Sections 406 (breach of trust) and 420(cheating) of the IPC has been registered against her. OC
Two U’khand men booked for fraud
Shahkot: The Shahkot police have booked two Uttarakhand residents on the charges of cheating and fraud. The duo have been identified as Anand Parshad, a resident of Haridwar, and Mohamad Aasham, a resident of Dehradun. The IO said the accused have inscribed a wrong engine and chassis number on a Swift (UA-07-P-8687). A case has been registered. No arrests have been made so far.
