Phagwara: A motorcycle bearing the registration number PB-07BV-7049 was found stolen from outside the Co-Operative Bank in Phagwara last evening. Bike owner Pardeep Kumar, a resident of Hoshiarpur, told the police that he went inside the bank after parking his bike but found it stolen when he came out. A case under Section 303(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered in this regard. oc

Cable thief arrested
Phagwara: The police have arrested a cable thief and recovered three stolen packets of cables from his possession last night. The arrested accused was identified as Vikki, a resident of Pehchan Nagar, Phagwara. A case has been registered against the arrested accused. oc

Village youth electrocuted
Phagwara: A village youth was electrocuted while working on a transformer in village Lakhanpal on Phagwara-Nakodar road on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased, identified as Lakhbir, a resident of village Chahar-kalan was repairing power lines. He was brought to a private hospital in Phagwara where he was declared brought dead. oc

Drug peddler arrested
Phagwara: The CIA staff of district police have arrested a drug peddler and recovered 50 grams of heroin from his possession last night. The accused, identified as Paramjit, a resident of village Boot, was nabbed at a check-point when he was going on a bike. The police have also impounded his bike bearing the registration number PB-09AM-2011. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered. oc

Dowry: Woman, son booked
Phagwara: The police have booked a woman and her son for dowry harassment. The accused Sohit Gupta and his mother Meenu Gupta belong to Shalimar Bagh, West Delhi. Aashtha Gupta, daughter of Kapil Dev, a resident of Kartar Nagar, Shahkot, complained to the police that her husband and mother-in-law had harassed her for bringing more dowry. Villager held for extortion
Phagwara: The police have arrested a Tarn Taran villager on the charges of extortion and criminal intimidation. The accused Sajan Deep Singh was of Kuti Wala village in Tarn Taran. Love Preet Singh of Yusaf Pur Dare Wal village had complained to the police that the accused demanded Rs 50 lakh as ransom money and threatened him with dire consequences and fired a gunshot at his house. oc

Phagwara: Shop owner Mohammad Siraz of Nimma Wala Chowk told the police that he parked his Activa (PB-36K-8168) outside his shop at Gaushala Bazar but found it stolen. The police have registered a case. oc

Phagwara: A boy reportedly died by suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his house near a vegetable market in Phillaur today morning. The deceased, identified as Manpreet, was a drug addict and was under stress. The police have registered a case and sent the body to the local Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. oc

Two held with stolen wood
Hoshiarpur: The Forest Department has arrested two persons with stolen wood and handed them over to the police. According to information, Forest Range Officer, Hoshiarpur, Jatinder Singh told the police that his department team arrested the two with khair wood stolen from the forest and impounded their scooter. The accused have been identified as Balwinder Kumar and Manpreet Singh, residents of Nara village. The police have registered a case against them. oc
