Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal on Wednesday flagged off awareness vans from the district administrative complex as part of an initiative to curb stubble burning.
Panchal stated that these ultra-modern vehicles would play a crucial role in educating farmers on the importance of paddy straw management. He emphasised that paddy stubble is not waste but a valuable resource that, if managed properly using advanced machinery, can significantly improve soil fertility.
He warned that stubble burning is hazardous to the environment and must be completely avoided. Panchal urged farmers to adopt sustainable practices instead of resorting to burning crop residue.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed departments including Agriculture, Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), Co-operative Societies, Rural Development and Panchayats, and Education to intensify awareness efforts in villages. He called for the organisation of public meetings, seminars, announcements, and other outreach activities.
