The Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Phagwara, Dr Akshita Gupta has appealed to city residents, shopkeepers and market association presidents to cooperate in the plastic ban campaign being run by the government.

Dr Gupta said the Municipal Corporation has formed special teams to stop the use of plastic bags within the city limits, which are checking the markets daily. Legal action will be taken against any shopkeeper found using plastic bags and challans will be issued.

She also appealed to market association presidents to join hands with the administration to contribute in making the city clean. It is necessary to stop the use of plastic bags to protect the environment and maintain the beauty of the city.

Apart from this, the health branch of the Municipal Corporation has also taken action against some dhaba owners of the city, who are not segregating waste properly and are keeping food items in the open. The challans have also been issued in this regard.

Dr Gupta finally appealed to the city residents to join this campaign of cleanliness and environmental conservation, so that Phagwara can be developed as a plastic-free and green city.
