Phagwara MC officials review monsoon preparedness

In light of the recent initiatives led by Municipal Commissioner Anupam Kler, senior civic body officials like Joint MC Commissioner Kulpreet Singh, accompanied by area in-charge Joginder Singh Mann and officials from the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board (PWSSB), today visited various areas in the city to review the ongoing measures for rainwater drainage.

During the inspection, the officials visited low-lying areas such as Bansawala Bazaar, Gaushala Bazaar, Naiyanwala Chowk, and sites along the national highway where sewerage work is in progress. They interacted with residents to listen to their concerns about the monsoon season and assured them of effective solutions.

Joint MC Commissioner Kulpreet Singh told the media that the city has been divided into four zones for the purpose of cleaning sewer lines. Equipment deployed for the task includes a truck-mounted jetting machine, four mini-jetting machines, six engines and two grab bucket machines. He emphasised that the administration is making every effort to ensure proper water drainage during the rainy season.

Kulpreet Singh urged residents to contribute by keeping the sewer lines free of waste, such as plastic bags and bottles, which can block drainage and exacerbate flooding issues. The Joint MC Commissioner also appealed to the public to segregate wet and dry waste at home, in accordance with Punjab Government guidelines, to enhance the city’s cleanliness and prevent health hazards during the monsoon season.

SDO Pradeep Chautani from the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board and PSPCL Executive Engineer Hardeep Singh were also present during the inspection.
